Esau had married two Canaanite women,
women who were from different backgrounds as him, without the fear of GOD in
them. They were idol worshipers.
After seeing that his parents
urged Jacob to go marry from his mother’s people, he realized his parents were
really displeased with his choice. Esau
trying to fix what he had done, took Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s
son as a wife, because to him, marrying his cousin like Jacob was instructed,
would fix his broken relationship with his parents but little did he know he
was going about it the wrong way, fixing a mistake with another mistake.
6 Esau saw that Isaac
had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Padan Aram to take himself a wife from
there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, “You shall not
take a wife from the daughters of Canaan,” 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his
father and his mother and had gone to Padan Aram. 8 Also Esau saw that the
daughters of Canaan did not please his father Isaac. 9 So Esau went to Ishmael
and took Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of
Nebajoth, to be his wife in addition to the wives he had.
Often times we try to salvage a situation but go about it the wrong
way, without instructions or guidance from the HOLY SPIRIT. It’s one thing to realize our faults, it’s
another to ask for directions and guidance, learning from our previous mistakes
so that we don’t make such mistakes anymore.
In my opinion, Esau if he really wants to repent from his wrong deeds,
should have gone to his father Isaac to seek counsel. A lot of us make such mistakes till date. We always
assume we know the right decision or direction to take, but end up making huge
mistakes, adding salt to our already damaged injury. Let us learn henceforth to go to GOD in
prayers and ask HIM for HIS divine instructions and directions. Speak always with the HOLY SPIRIT, HE is
always available to guide us right. Shalom!
Prayer: LORD teach us to always make the right decisions through the
help of the HOLY SPIRIT in our lives in JESUS NAME, amen.
